[History and Message] > For your stay > For your pilgrimage

Built by the faith of men, starting point of the "Via Podiensis", one of the routes of Saint James of Compostella, a city with an international reputation, its protected area (with the Notre Dame cathedral registered in the UNESCO World Humanity heritage list) is testament to the richness of its architectural heritage and its history.
A city of art, an artistic and cultural centre, a venue for conferences, exchanges and meetings, its location, at the heart of a department full of open spaces, makes it an ideal starting point for discovering a region offering the entire panoply of open-air activities. Numerous and varied events are on offer throughout the year.

The fame of Puy en Velay is also connected with Fuseau Lace which has been made for centuries and the skills and techniques of which have been preserved thanks to the creation of a National Conservation Workshop and a Lace Teaching Centre which perpetuates its presence.
Green lentils, with appelation d'origine controlée, are a famous dish which numerous chefs use in their recipes.
Finally green vervain, an after-dinner liquer, has been famous since the XIXth century.
In a preserved natural environment, Puy en Velay is a pleasant town in which to live and one that wishes to be, for you, one of the most welcoming.
