L’Hospitalet,
assembly place
At this chapel, built in the XIIth century,
the Rocamadour pilgrims, who come from all places,
meet. It is together, in the image of the People
of God in the desert, that they are going to accomplish
the last part of their pilgrimage.
La
Voie Sainte, walking
They take the Voie Sainte (Holy Road),
in the past the only road leading to the shrine,
in a procession of joy and hope. This walk summarises
and devotes all the efforts made to go to this
holy place.
Le
Grand Escalier, climbing
The objective of any pilgrimage is to
improve one’s place in the spiritual order.
At Rocamadour, this rise is represented by the
200 step Grand Escalier (Great Steps) which invites
one to repent and to penitence, even if it is
not climbed on one's knees as in the past.
Le
parvis des Sanctuaires, prayer and contemplation
In the heart of the cliff, the square
of the shrine with its seven churches, a space
open only towards the sky, guides the steps of
the pilgrims towards the chapel of the Black Virgin,
centre of the pilgrimage.

La
chapelle Notre Dame
In this place, the Black Virgin welcomes
all the pilgrims who stop a while to "rest"
beside her Son whom she presents on her left knee.
Le
Chemin de Croix, share and proclaim
This last climb, along the fourteen stations
of the Way of the Cross, guides the pilgrim to
the end of his journey, his heart filled with
Hope for his return home.
